Just as a baby can have a yeast infection, so there can be yeast infection symptoms in men too. The common notion is that only women can develop yeast infection in their genital region. It is a common tendency to assume that yeast infection in the genital region can affect women only. Yeast infection are more prevalent in women, though the genital yeast infection can affect men too.
The yeast called Candida is present in the gut of men as well as women. Yeast infection is the term given to Candida overgrowth, which is also called Candidas. Candida also gives rise to various other yeast infections like oral thrush, athletes foot besides skin rashes. The factors contributing to genital yeast infections include Candida overgrowth.
Yeast infection can be caused by other factors besides Candida. It is HIV which causes oral thrush yeast infection in man. Various factors cause penile yeast infection in man. The factors are detailed below:
1. Antibiotics Usually penile yeast infection symptoms in man do not develop from antibiotics, but in rare cases, this may happen. Antibiotics being Candida friendly is the main reason for this. They destroy both good bacteria as well as bad bacteria. This creates an imbalance in the gut flora. Infection is caused due to the Candida overgrowth which takes place this way.
2. Diabetes Diabetic men have high sugar levels in their urine making them more prone to yeast infections.
It is important for men to be on the look out for the following penile yeast infection symptoms:
1. Any kind of soreness, itching or irritation in the head of the penis.
2. Redness or blisters on the head of the penis.
3. Having a discharge which is thick and white in appearance.
4. Little red spots may appear on the penis shaft or the surrounding genital area if the treatment of the yeast infection is not done.
The man should visit the doctor to get a proper diagnosis done in case he comes across any of these symptoms. The reasons why it is important to have a proper diagnosis are detailed below:
1. A man may pass his yeast infection to his partner in case he does not get it treated. Similarly, she too can pass it back to him. The yeast infection can be eradicated only if both sexual partners get them treated.
2. The man may be suffering from a medical condition called genital herpes, but he may be under the impression that he is suffering from a yeast infection. Genital herpes is the name of a sexually transmitted disease which has symptoms of little itchy bumps. This is a chronic disease which can not be treated with the same medicines which are used to treat a yeast infection.
It is for these same reasons that a person suffering from these same reasons avoids self diagnosis and gets himself investigated by a health care provider.
The penile yeast infection symptoms in men can be treated. The cream which is prescribed to women affected by vaginal yeast infections can be used for the treatment. These creams can be purchased from the local pharmacy even without a doctors prescription. In case you have never had a penile yeast infection before, it is best to consult a doctor. Get a check up done by a doctor and take his treatment advice which will lead you to attaining effective relief.
The market has many medications which can treat this yeast infection. Hence even if you are now well aware of the yeast infection symptoms in men, it is better not to do any self medication.

Irritation from Soap?
I’m 20 years old and recently became sexually active with my boyfriend. Earlier this year, after having sex a few times, I contracted what I thought was a yeast infection. I couldn’t go to the OBGYN at the time, so I bought OTC Monistat-7 and completed the treatment. I got better and stopped using a soap that I had previously been using. (It was an unscented soap from an organic store that only had vegetable glycerin and some oil in it). I started using Dove, and for a few months, I was fine.
I don’t exactly remember my soap usage after that, but I once again contracted what I thought was a yeast infection, a few months later. I was with the same man, and thought that maybe we hadn’t been hygienic enough or that I had worn a bathing suit too long, etc. I took Monistat-3 and felt slightly better, but now, about 2 weeks after completing that treatment, I feel slight irritation again.
I was so frustrated that I had gotten another one. I realize that it could be recurrent Bacterial Vaginosis, but I don’t have any strong odors.
I’ve come to think that maybe this soap is the answer. I have very sensitive skin, and it doesn’t give me problems elsewhere, but could I be allergic to the vegetable glycerin? I wash frequently and use the bar soap directly on my genitals and I’m beginning to think that maybe it’s not washing off all of the way, it’s irritating me, or it’s promoting growth of either yeast or bacteria.
Does anyone know what could be going on here? Allergies/irritation? Or am I just stuck with recurring infections?
Help!
If the soap contains chemical ingredients, even if it’s unscented, it still could cause you to have a bacterial vaginosis (BV). Having sex during this time could even lead you to a worse condition. Why? Both things disturb the bacterial balance in the vagina, the root cause of BV.
Things that usually will cause BV:
- Douching
- Using chemical, colored or perfumed tampons, soaps.
- Using tight undergarment.
- Having sex with more than 1 partner
- High blood sugar level.
If using Monistat doesn’t give you an expected result, may be you could read this information. I hope it could give you a help. Good luck…
