Natural Cures For Yeast Infections In Dogs

Natural Cures For Yeast Infection in Dogs

Many dog ear infections and cat ear infections are caused by allergies. What are the symptoms of an ear infection? Look for head shaking, scratching or rubbing ears, discharge from ears, bad smelling or tender, red ears. Though conventional medicine is available for ear infections there are many natural remedies you can try. Here are a few home remedies you can try which have been recommended by holistic or natural care veterinarians.

Use vinegar to clean your pets ear - If you find a large quantity of brownish pink wax inside your pets ear, there is a possibility that a yeast infection has developed. A yeast infection can be cured by using white vinegar. Veterinarians who advocate natural treatment say using white vinegar is good because it eliminates dirt and debris. Vinegar also helps restore the proper chemical balance in the ears. Pour a small amount of white vinegar into the ear canal. Use an eye dropper so you can control the amount of vinegar. Massage the area gently and gently clean the inside of the ear with a cotton ball. Once a day perform this routine until the ear is healed.

Try vitamin C to decrease inflammation - Adrenal glands in your pet's body produce a natural steroid which can help soothe inflammation in their ears. Giving pet's vitamin C can make the adrenal glands work more efficiently. If you cat or dog weighs under 15 pounds give them between 100 and 250 milligrams a day. Larger pets can take 250 to 500 milligrams two or three times a day. For some pets a large dose of Vitamin C can cause diarrhea, so holistic vets advise you to decrease the dosage until you find the right one for your pet.

Reduce toxins by changing diet - If you buy your pet commercial pet food it may have added chemicals and preservative that cause ear wax production to increase. You can try a homemade diet or a pet food that is additive and preservative free. In addition to less ear wax production your pet may also have a stronger immune system as a result of the change in diet.

Help air circulate in your pet's ears - Better air circulation will help prevent the growth of bacteria inside the ear area. Bacteria likes warm, moist areas on your pet's body. Excess hair inside the ears tends to keep the air from moving freely which allows bacteria to grow. Examine your pet's ear periodically and trim excess hair with blunt nose scissors. Inner ear hair can also be plucked but can be painful to your pet. Your groomer can pluck hair is necessary.

You can protect your pet from ear infections by using natural products developed for this purpose. Natural remedies and products for pets is a growing market as pet owners are becoming more concerned about the side effects from traditional medicines. Products are available that soothe and condition ear passages to prevent common itching and scratching. They also help maintain a normal balance of flora in the ear canal thus preventing infection.

  1. How did you resolve Demodex Mange NATURALLY in your dog?
I am a medically concerned member of our local Pug Dog group. We see an enormous number of cases of the non-contagious Demodex Mange in our members’ dogs who over vaccinate on a schedule instead of using titer tests to indicate a need for vaccination. It breaks my heart every time I hear that someone has euthanized their pet needlessly at the suggestion of their vet after spending thousands of dollars on the vet’s chemical “band aids.” By over vaccinate, I mean those giving unnecessary components such as Lepto, Lyme, or snake bite protection or those who vaccinate more than every six years, or those who give Rabies vaccine to pups under a year old.) Pugs are genetically susceptible to Vaccinosis. The result is Demodex where the body over reacts and attacks the dust mites normally present on the skin. Once this happens, many vets prescribe repetitive oral steroids and Pugs die from kidney failure about a year later. I am collecting information on natural Pug Health for my club and I need help finding out how others have cured Demodex and the resulting symptoms (hair loss, bumps on the forehead, itching, balding, secondary yeast and staph infection elephant skin.) So far, we have had to resort to a dose of Ivermectin to kill the mites and to get hair growth to return in severe cases. We don’t like this chemical solution. I would like to hear from those who have successfully cured their dogs, regardless of the breed. Thanks so much!

    • Ivomec, or ivermectin, which is something already in heartworm preventative is a common remedy for demodex. Demodectic mange is never contagious…sarcoptic mange is..also known as scabies. Demodectic mange is a genetic disorder that is passed on, and therefore means some pugs, as well as any other dog, may be prone to it based on genetics. Suppression of the immune system is something that causes the demodex to emerge. Sulfur based dips also help treat demodex.

  2. how to cure a yeast infection in my dog?
My dog has a yeast infection. I had an old Golden Retriever a few years back who developed a yeast infection and the vet treated it with antibiotics plus flushing out the ears and then putting drops in them. It went away for only a short time. His health went down hill fast and he was in great pain from hip displacia. I have recently read up on a type of fungus/yeast infection called Candida Albicans. It has all the same symptoms. Part of the cure is to give an enzyme that is found in yogurt. It said to give the dog Acidophilus to build up the natural enzymes in the stomach where this infection starts. The smell from the dogs body and ears are horrible. He gnaws at his feet and skin all the time. I have read from some of you that the ear canal and the stomach are not connected but you still went on to say give the dog a non grain food. This fungus/yeast infection works its way from the stomach and makes its way to most parts of the body, especially the ears.

So am trying the ear rinse of one part white vinegar to four parts water. twice a day, one Acidophilus a day and maybe some yogurt once a week. It can’t hurt. I also give him a children s antihistamine once a day for the itching. We will see how much better (if any) this will be then what the Vet prescribed for my other dog.

    • your doing the right thing by giving them yogurt and the Acidophilus because yeast infections come from grains and also the stomach.
You have read correctly as that is how the ears become infected is from the stomach and the yeast that builds up.
YOu may give your dog more yogurt along with the Acidophilus.

  3. moisture in dogs ear.?
she favors one side and it smells like potatoes, sort of starchy. she is not running a fever or acting sick. could this be a yeast infection?
i want to try to cure it naturally before going to the vet because she responds better to natural remedies over antibiotics and treatments. i have oticlense for her that i use regularly, will that clear up the infection if there is one?
what are some things that may clear up the dogs ears naturally?
I have seen people mention vinegar and mineral oil but how much am i supposed to use and what is the best way to apply it? I feel that vinegar is too harsh and would sting her ears.
    any help appreciated.

  5. Anyone know of a natural ear infection remedy for dogs?
My Basset Hound has had a couple ear infecions caused by yeast and she has another one now. In the past she has used prescription Mometamax. Is there a natural remedy that will treat and cure the infection? I want to avoid taking her to the vet again if at all possible.
I dont need smart assed answers please, I know what my dog has, I know that Basset Hounds are susceptible to ear infections, I take care of her and Im a big believer in natural cures. If you cant answer my question with a logical, polite answer dont answer at all.
THANKS in advance for your help!

    • My bulldog Bulldozer used to get sore ears and they smelled like cheese. So my vet said to try vinegar and rubbing alcohol. Fifty percent of each or half and half.
The vinegar breaks down the gunk and the alcohol dries up water from say a bath. I used it after every bath and some times in between. Do not use it more than once a week. Too much drying can be painful. Also the smell of funky ears can draw flies that will bite and aggravate you puppy.

Best to do this outside and only if your dog really trusts you. I had someone else pour in the medicine I would hold him still and hold his ear open. Then we would filler up. Flop his ears closed and massage the sides of his head and then let him go. This is the gross part he would shake his head and any thing loosened up would come out. Every thing would fly out. So we did this outside and in not our best clothes. With a floppy eared dog you will need to wipe away the excess after he shakes his head. Towel drying his head if he goes out in the rain or sprinkler etc is also a good idea. They don’t sweat but their skin and ears produces oil like ours.

Do not use this solution if your dog has open sores the vinegar and the alcohol will sting.

You could get bit or he may never let you touch his / her head again.

Never never ever use hydrogen peroxide. The foaming action causes pressure and can damage their ears permanently.
